Walmart invests heavily in its app

Walmart has created Walmart Pay service after shunning Apple Pay last year, and it is now ranked among top 3 retail apps in Google and Apple app stores.

This is quite unexpected. It's clear that the retail giant didn't like the idea of Apple Pay, or thought it could create a better service, perhaps more tailored to the needs of its customers (the app works differently to Apple Pay and is more of a 'scan and go' tool).

Whether it is right or wrong in its reasons, and though visually the app is a few pixels short of a picnic, it's inspiring to see a company and brand of this size adapting to the new in its own way rather than plainly ignoring a shift in behaviour at it's own possible peril—Kodak, Blockbuster and company
