Airbnb and SkyScanner deals hint at China’s growing tourism market

Chinese travel group Ctrip International has agreed to acquire Skyscanner for £1.4bn, while reports say Airbnb is in talks to buy Xiaozhu, China’s second largest home accommodation service. Airbnb has, so far, focused its efforts in China on outbound tourism – but the move would give it a greater foothold in the domestic market. It currently has about 75,000 homes listed in China, placing it behind Xiaozhu, which has 100,000 listings. Presenting the ever-growing Chinese tourism market and expansive opportunities within it.
