One way Facebook is looking to deliver additional value to its engaged daily audience is by serving content that concerns regions that respective users are geo-located within. The social media giants latest test feature – “Today In” – offering a mixture of a mix of city-specific events, announcements and local news hopes to do just that.
As TechCrunch this week confirmed, “For its new local hub, Facebook is starting with a small batch of test markets”. While this is currently targeted at a range of cities in the US, there is a good chance it will be extended globally and could even become a permanent feature – depending on uptake.
The ultimate ambition of this localised feature is to provide users with a bespoke and tailored feed of information – with genuine relevancy to their daily lives – in a bid to enforce Facebook’s daily utility and keep active users on site for an increasing amount of time.
