Instagram has again taken inspiration from a Snapchat feature and incorporated it into its platform functionality. This time it is borrowing from ‘Snapchat Memories’ by implementing a feature that allows users to archive and highlight expired Instagram Stories.
Launched on both Android and iOS, Instagram Stories will automatically Archive Stories to a private section of a user’s account, once they have vanished 24hours after being posted. Users can then create ‘Stories Highlights’, titled collections of past Stories that allow users to reminisce and share memories with friends and followers.
The bigger play for Instagram is to encourage its 300 million Stories users to post more and to revisit their personal archive which has gone offline. By offering users the chance to re-engage with memories and share them with friends, Instagram is set to lock in an actively engaged audience for longer.
